In the following article,"13 Reasons to Endorse Our Piano Lesson Business" you will read an in-depth telling regarding the signature and proprietary aspects of our company. I, Ryan David Dwyer, the founder of Key Identity Access (TM), transparently reveal every aspect of this entrepreneurship adventure.  All The 12 Issues of Entrepreneurship (TM) are covered: Metadata Identity, Value, Publicity/Social Media, Company Culture, Passion, Services, Alliances, Transformation, Audience, Reputation, Relationship to Society, and Our Story. Whether you decide to become involved as a customer, business alliance partner, affiliate, or investor, we lay it all out on the table below.  By reading you will join our journey and help spread the message that, "You've had the keys all along!".

Reason 1: Our Identity

Key Identity Access (TM) is exactly what our piano lesson business name implies.  We are access to all the keys of the piano equally.  All our lessons focus on this fact. We allow the playing of the black and white keys together, in any kind of pattern. No prior knowledge of proper technical names, such as sharps or flats, A-B-C-D-E-F-G are needed.  Therefore we foster a bridge between concrete and abstract learning.  Piano teaching methods that rely on note reading only are relying on abstract teaching.  Abstract teaching uses symbols that do not resemble what is being requested to be played.  In contrast, our diagrams show what to be played with a representation that looks just like the keys needed to be played. We distinguish the keys through a proprietary arrangement of the 12 Colors present in a standard Color Wheel.  Our founder, Ryan David Dwyer, has secured a provisional patent since July 11, 2015.  Provisional patents are not made publicly available until the full patent is filed.

In short, our identity is distinguished by that fact that we are a color coded hand-positioning spatial recognition system of teaching. We permit faster learning of any musical concept or song, than is possible starting out with a note reading based approach.

Reason 2: Our Value

Countless adults have told us that they spent many years (upwards of 6) learning to play the piano as a kid and eventually quit. They often regret not sticking with lessons and want to get their kids back in. However, they often don't put their kids in lessons because they subconsciously don't want their kids to experience what they did:

  • Rigorous forced practice
  • Learning to play complex classical pieces (eventually) only to have nothing to show for it today
  • They only can play a few songs after all those years
  • They never learned to compose their own music

Why should these adults get themselves back into piano learning if all they expect is the same results or experience they had growing up?

Therefore, our value, the true benefits of our piano learning company, are discovered by you matching what is paid for with money and the results you achieve with just 1 year of lessons.   In the first 3 months of lessons, in our courses for kids and/or adults, we provide all the foundations for being able to write a song.  This means that if a student writes one song every couple months, they are storing up life-time memories that showcase their own creativity, and this leaves no regrets.

Parents, children, and adult students earn a huge long time return on their investment in piano lessons with us.

Reason 3: Our Publicity and Social Media

We technically only started publicly announcing Key Identity Access (TM) after July 11th, 2015, when our provisional patent was filed.  Therefore, we have really only been "in business" for 5 months (at the time of this post).  Since each Level takes about 3 months to complete it may take us a year to have some really solid testimony videos.  However, our first student was able to play one of our founder's complex songs, right away, through the way lessons are presented.

Here are some links to testimonies:

The founder of Music Marketing Classroom, Ben Sword, has a 4 year old son, and thought this method is really cool.  He interviewed me and asked some really great questions about how the business got started! Ben Sword also has been taking our Songwriter Superpowers Club PDF lessons and says that he is learning to play quick from it (he's a guitarist).

Regarding the publicity and social media presence of our piano teaching promotions; we are not in a rush for a huge amounts of "follows" and "likes".  We'd rather have an authentic community built over a long period of time, that ends up spreading the word for us naturally, because they really like what we offer.  Recently, on around November 19th, I began using Google + and made a community there called Songwriter Superpowers Club.  The social media interaction there has been amazing! One of the ways we are fostering authentic interaction is by providing highly valuable and thought out constructive feedback on people's songs that they are posting.  This reveals that we understand the songwriting process as it relates to musicality.

Here are some examples and testimony of the impact we are making through our authentic social media interaction with musicians, at our Google+ Community called, "Songwriter Superpowers Club":

We also submitted a recent Press Release that quite a few media outlets picked up on November 11th, 2015, that helps you understand what we are all about. Here are some of them:

Reason 4: Our Company Culture

So what is company culture exactly? www.companyculture.com says that it is, "The company’s shared beliefs, values and practices — the unique way your organization sees the world and acts. It is what employees do and what their actions mean to them." Therefore, a company culture really represents the principles all people operating under the authority of the business's structure, that guide their actions as ambassadors of the business. With that in mind, these are the guiding principles that motivate the behavior of the Key Identity Access (TM) piano lesson staff toward you:

  1. Every human being has the potential to write a song immediately.
  2. We uphold that all human beings are born with natural musicianship and aim to remove all barriers that would convince the individual otherwise.
  3. Our curriculum's lessons awaken creativity in all students by teaching a wide variety of ways to combine sounds together, that are very common among ancient and modern composers.
  4. Students are always encouraged to practice originality, as opposed to regurgitation of lessons.
  5. The ultimate goal is for all people we influence to come to the conclusion for themselves that "You've had the keys all along", and therefore no longer dependent on us.

The famous Jazz Musician, Miles Davis, is also known for his quote, "First you must imitate, then you innovate."

Key Identity Access (TM) was heavily inspired by the principle that, "Every human being - without exception - is deeply and profoundly musical." -Neil Moore, founder of Simply Music .  Without Mr. Moore's clear vision for inspiring a new global culture (a world where everyone plays), also a book by Bernadette E Ashby, the Key Identity Access (TM) curriculum would likely have not been ignited.  Neil Moore has developed a methodology that delays note reading for an entire year so that students learn between 40 and 60 songs ever before approaching the technical side of learning piano.  These are taught through musical sentences and shapes. They then are immersed for the next 3 years in sight reading, improvisation, composition, treble and bass cleft musical notation training, and learning many jazz and classical pieces. The whole course actually expands to an entire 10 years of learning. Impressive!

I was going to build an entire business around The Simply Music method in 2013, by training and licensing teachers in a wide variety of locations.  However, I realized in late 2014 that Key Identity Access (TM) had to be born as an outflow of personal happiness, especially since especially since I envisioned the idea back in the year 2004.  Therefore, the curriculum became manifest from the principle that suppressing ideas, dreams, and vision leads to a dissatisfied life.  In that regard, we aim to inspire everyone who has always had learning to play piano and/or writing their 1st song on their bucket list to scratch this task off your list!

Reason 5: Our Passion

When I was just 8 years old my family had been given a small organ by grandparents.  Soon after they hosted a missionary from their religious denomination named Tedd Harris.  Tedd happened to play piano by ear.  I discovered immediate inspiration and was impressed by Mr. Harris's ability to play movie theme songs just by hearing the music.  The organ came with a lesson book that used a number system.  Since the amazing piano playing missionary did not rely on note reading and the lesson book did not require note reading for him to play the songs well, then I made a decision early on to rebel against reading notes on a page!

6 years later, after already having written many of my own songs, my parents decided it was time to place me into formal piano lessons at Music Man Music Studio in Wilsonville, Oregon. My instructor Ron DePuy, immediately recognized the drive to write music was greater than the desire to learn notes. Therefore, although Ron prescribed some note reading lessons, he heavily emphasized music theory lessons, which added fuel to my fire for composition and improvisation.  Ron used his guitar during lessons to also give piano students the sense of playing with a band or another musician.  I impressed Mr. DePuy so much with progress that he invited me to play (at the age of just 15) with his own band. (Was also invited by an interdenominational religious group, in my home town of Canby, Oregon, to play keyboards with a bunch of "adults" in a band called, "Youth Bridge".)

All that being said, the type of musical passion that has fueled the development of Key Identity Access (TM) piano lesson business includes 3 types of enthusiasm:

  1. Our Passion to write songs.
  2. Our Passion to spontaneously create music beyond preconceived limitations.
  3. Our Passion to gather musicians together for satisfying playing.

We impart all 3 Passions above to all who are willingly to receive our instruction.  Also, we impart the sense of accepting Music Theory as a normal state of mind that produces satisfactory playing for individuals and/or bands.  What is the Theory of Music? According to Wikipedia music theory is, "The study of the practices and possibilities of music. It generally derives from observation of how musicians and composers make music, but includes hypothetical speculation." With music theory there is no set-in-stone best approach to exploring the possibilities of music making. Yet there are certain commonalities which have been scientifically confirmed to be universally adapted into the songwriting process of such a great percentage of composers throughout history, that they can be considered the basics of music theory. [The Songwriter Superpowers Club takes the student on a journey through music theory foundations.]

While many piano teachers do indeed teach music theory, they still implement all the rudimentary concepts through the complex communication of modern sight reading symbols. Key Identity Access, on the other hand, teaches the same universal principles of musicianship, by transcending ALL technical definitions. In this regard we help you see what some consider to be a wall, is simply a well knit piece of fabric that has been painted to look like a wall!

Our Passion therefore, is to help you remove all illusionary obstacles, while giving you fast and easy tools to experience musicality.  And what exactly is musicality? Google says that it is:

  • Tastefulness and accomplishment in music.
  • The quality of being melodious and tuneful.
  • Awareness of music and rhythm, especially in dance.

Some of you reading once played piano or attempted to write a song and failed. For you we created a short YouTube video tutorial playlist called, "5 Tips to Rekindle Your Passion to Play Piano and Write Your 1st Song."

Reason 6: Our Services

The 2 distinct piano lesson services for you entail a lot of hard work and preparation behind the scenes:

  • Our FREE private Songwriter Superpowers Club (TM) provides complimentary PDF Downloads, giving you all the details that our preview videos hint at. [We implement this on the back end of our website through a drip content system].
  • Our online piano lesson course for parents and children is a hybrid between the Internet and Physical Lessons with a teacher. In this case we provide lesson units in a private membership area with tutorial videos that instruct the parent on a recommended way to teach themselves alongside their kids. It is a very rare (if not unheard of) thing for an online piano lesson company to create a bridge between a physical workbook and an online course. Actually, our proprietary approach requires the use of a workbook with coloring activities and hand-positioning exercises that are structured for kids.

Reason 7: Our Alliances

We consider our first alliance to be with the mission of the piano lesson curriculum mentioned earlier called, "Simply Music." Their company culture inspired ours.  For all practical and distinguishing purposes the following represent our present tense critical alliances that set us apart from every other piano lesson tutorial business out there:

  1. We are building an Affiliate System so that anyone we approve can make extra income by placing a link on their website, in emails, or through social media posts. Our affiliate system tracks the links that refer real paying customers to us. We then share a percentage of each sale with the affiliate responsible for the sale.  Who are the best candidates to affiliate with us?
  • Piano teachers that want to make extra income but don't teach younger than 7 years old or who are not composers themselves
  • Musicians who want to place links on their websites to make extra revenue for their music career
  • Bloggers who write about the music industry or piano lessons

Click this link to sign up and apply to become an affiliate and receive some promotional links and photos.

       2. Our curriculum has been vetted and processed by a Patent Attorney named, "Charles Mirho", who is an entrepreneur himself.  During the provisional patent interview Mr. Mirho asked very specific questions in order to assess the unique features of our system. He has/will be offering specialized guidance to us in the coming years.

Reason 8: Our Transformational Curriculum

The best way to know for sure whether our piano learning system is for you, is to actually test it out for yourself! Our transformational curriculum provides simple tutorial videos available on YouTube and inside the Songwriter Superpowers Club . These short lessons provide a sample of what you could learn after you download our Superpower PDFs (printable downloadable files). These downloads are available at no charge to you, but you have to wait for them to appear in the membership area. Why do we use technology in order to "drip" the downloadable files? Because it has been proven that your own retention rate is improved through this kind of approach.

The real transformation comes when you actually do our lessons.  Did you see the Star Wars movie, "The Empire Strikes Back"? Master Yoda says, "Do. Or do not. There is no try." Your true music playing and songwriting evolution will take place when you discover yourself doing without trying.  Trying is what happens when you are given a heavy technical barrier as a means of accomplishment.  What I love about the Hebrew Story of the Shepherd boy David and his defeat of the Giant Goliath is that the current King of Israel -at the time of the giant's threat - named Saul, implored David to wear his own armor. The armor didn't fit David, and was too heavy to be effective! Yet the only way for David to use his own inner creative force to slay the giant was to remove the barriers of Saul's armor and weaponry.  Only then was he free to tap into his own inner wisdom: the slingshot of his natural creativityDavid did not "try" to defeat Goliath; he had already been used to killing lions, tigers, and bears.

Once you embrace your natural creativity through our piano lesson program, after you access your 1st Songwriting Superpower , you will immediately feel empowered to experiment with the knowledge that you could write your first song.

Reason 9: Our Unique Audience

How could you possibly know if you are our intended audience or not? Here is a short list that will let you know if you should not listen to our message and not become a part of our community:

  • You believe there is only one "right" way to learn an instrument and play it well
  • You are sure that children under 7 should not learn to play piano
  • You don't believe that it is important for piano students to write their own music
  • You believe it is okay to force technical learning upon children
  • You believe that only some people are musical while everyone else is "unlucky"

Here is a short list of reasons why you should listen to our message and become a part of our community:

  • You are open minded about alternative ways to learn and/or teach piano
  • You really want young children or your own young children to play piano with a wonderful experience they will grow up and look back on with no regrets
  • You want to give yourself and beginner piano students the chance to write their own songs from their heart, and not simply their head
  • You prefer that people are inspired to play instead of made to regurgitate knowledge from "experts"
  • You want the whole world to experience natural musicianship

If you have actually taken the time to read this far down the page it is highly likely that you see yourself as aligning to the Key Identity Access (TM) piano lesson business principles and purpose.  You are truly a unique audience and we want you to interact with us.

Reason 10: Our Reputation

Only time will tell if our reputation for inspiring instant songwriters lives up to the name of our Songwriter Superpowers Club (TM). We are only 5 months into this venture and a few weeks into the release of the free songwriting club.  Here is the question you should be asking yourself, "Are any of the courses I've tried or am involved with helping me become more confident to compose the music I hear in my heart?" If the answer is yes, then don't quit using them. But ask yourself, "Am I really able to translate whatever I hear inside my deepest emotions, into the actual sounds and words I want to manifest publicly?" I say definitively - without doubt - that we are set up to give you this power. [As more and more people are using the Key Identity Access (TM) piano learning business system of teaching, embracing our message, and providing feedback, we will write a lot more in this section.]

Reason 11: Our Relationship to Society

Truth be told, there are thousands of wonderful music and piano learning methods available! People are learning to play instruments very well.  Nevertheless...

"If beauty is in the eye of the beholder, then great sounding music is in the ear of the listener"

- Ryan David Dwyer, founder of Key Identity Access (TM)

The major problem in determining if someone is a "good pianist" is that no one has the same tastes in music.  If you don't like jazz music then you probably don't desire to take the time to listen to the different types of jazz or discover what makes a great jazz musician.  But no matter how "advanced" any musician is, the quality of their music is not set in stone.  They may be really good "in their own ears" and to their fan club, but maybe not to you! Our relationship to society is that we wish to evolve the world's acceptance of "ear of the listener".  There is no universal way to judge whether someone's music is good or not.  Yet there are 4 specific composition pillars that can be used to filter out bad, mediocre, and great songs from each other:

  • Musical Dynamics (how loud or soft a song or part of a song is)
  • Musical and lyrical congruence (the way the music actually helps to convey the message of a word, phrase, or sentence)
  • Percussion congruence/dynamics (the way beats are adapted in different parts of a song to match the music and lyrics)
  • Originality of a song (how creative the song is compared to others using similar melodies and chords)

We expect ourselves to influence the music industry, songwriters, music teachers, and everyone we train, to take in consideration The 4 Pillars of a Great Song mentioned above.

One of the most amazing things about Key Identity Access (TM) is that it can be used as a tool to teach any song, on any instrument, in addition to enhancing the quality of already existing curriculum! Our intention includes the following relationship to society of our piano instruction system:

  • Building transition courses so our students can speedily take flight with other courses and teachers that currently offer great and proven methods
  • Create workbooks that teach the songs of celebrity musicians so that any beginner, intermediate, or advanced student can choose to immediately play the songs they already enjoy
  • License the assets of our methodology so that anyone can create their own courses through it
  • Create software that allows the simple display of whatever is played through a MIDI output, in the form of our workbook displays
  • Use the proprietary aspects of our system to create courses for every other instrument, with piano as the foundation instrument for all others
  • Innovate instruments that are correctly color coded in alignment with our 12-fold correspondences
  • Contribute to the research of the relationship of music creation and the assistance of various special needs issues among children and adults

If you wish to become an Evangelist (spread the good news) of our cause or invest time, resources, energy and/or money, give us a call and leave us a message at 503-479-8631 . Let us know your vision for how we could forge a master-mind alliance. Be clear, specific, and to the point.

Reason 12: Your Story Is Our Story

Back in the year 2004 I worked in a piano store that included a group piano lesson studio.  I taught adult and children's lessons using well known popular (and recommended) books.  At that time floppy disks were still very popular. Yes, floppy disks! The piano lesson manufacturers would include floppy disk that had background music to help make lessons more fun.  And, that was true. Students were having fun, but not necessarily progressing. Is that your story too?

The children's lesson book (for as young as 5) used stuffed animals to help make the lessons cooler for kids. Besides, even with the curriculum that included the stuffed animals, I had to make my own coloring exercises because the actual things they were playing were down right hokey. Yet even with all the "extras" to help make learning piano more exciting from the start, I had always rebelled against note reading, and found myself sending these students to other teachers so they could get all the "technical training" right.   Yet I felt there was something missing from the note reading lessons.  It wasn't until 2013 that I realized what it is. What was missing from note reading lessons was the very fact that note reading was even being used at all! So actually, these fun lessons never needed those notes on a page to begin with!

That same year I met an art student who informed me of the color wheel with its 12 colors.  Then realized that these colors should and could be arranged with the keys; but not in the order of C, C#, D, D#, E.  Instead I saw an arrangement much like the color wheel itself, that made the keys more accessible.  C,D,E,F,G,A,B, then Bb, Ab, Gb, Eb, and Db! But I was no where close to coming up with a curriculum. All I knew is that inside me was a great idea.  I experimented with making actual notes appear on Staff Paper with Treble and Bass Clefts, colored with his color scheme.  But because I was not a fan of note reading (being a great pianist already and having written many songs without relying on sight reading), was at a loss for the best way to deploy a lesson program.

10 years later, in late 2014, I had an Epiphany! At the same time he embraced a very specific business philosophy that helps categorize 12 Issues of Entrepreneurship into 12 Colored Categories, he also visualized a piano lesson curriculum.  But the importance of legally protecting the idea was also an issue before telling the public about it. Finally, on July 11th, 2015, an official provisional patent was filed through a patent attorney.  This changed everything! I got right to forming the Level 1 Course. 10 years may seem like a long time to wait on an idea. Yet the wait has been worth it. Now, through Key Identity Access (TM) piano lesson business a fresh way has been pioneered to help both adults and kids transcend limitations about playing that they previously thought they had.  Our story came forth from a great idea which needed a big "aha moment" for it to work.  And that moment came through seeking a way to remove the unnecessary: the initial barrier of learning through notes on a page.

What kind of limitation have you set up for yourself in your own life?

Perhaps you were told when you were a child things like,

"You don't have what it takes."

"If you don't do this then..."

"You don't have rhythm."

"Why can't you just practice more?"

You could use our Songwriter Superpowers Club (for yourself) or our Level 1 Course (if you have kids), and get a completely fresh start to do what you may have not thought possible before.  Our Story could become Your Story. So you are probably wondering, "But does the Key Identity Access (TM) founder really know how to write songs and play music spontaneously from his heart?" You could watch this video at YouTube and decide for yourself.  Not only is that song one of my compositions, but I break forth in spontaneous - unrehearsed - playing that is fresh. You certainly do not have to aspire to play like me; you could use what you see and hear to first mimic, then innovate your own style someday.

"You've Had The Keys All Along!"

-Ryan David Dwyer

Reason 13: We've Built An Incredible Long-Term Foundation

Congrats, fellow piano music enthusiast! You've made it this far to the end of this in-depth article.  It is my sincerest expectation that your time invested into reading all the words above will let you know that every angle of business success has been thought through and explained. All The 12 Issues of Entrepreneurship (TM) have been covered in detail above. These are the foundation principles of our piano lesson business that we will ever seek to improve as the years move on. Sean Kalley, our original adult piano student, said this about the methodology, "You aren't trying to tell people what to think; but how to think." Therefore, we inspire through your own creativity, a way to forge your own unique path of music discovery, style, and originality.  We are here for you on your songwriting adventure!
